Career Restart at Markert Group: From Fashion to HR Management

With the Move from Converse (Nike, Inc.) to Markert Group, Sandra Brings Fresh Energy to the HR Team.

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background?

“After many years in Product and Key Account Management (Textile/Shoes), I moved to Nike Inc./Converse Retail six years ago. In addition to being responsible for staff, I was a member of the Culture Club, a group of selected representatives from various European business units who work on improving the company culture. I also participated in mentoring programs and focused intensely on DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) management. This drove me to fully transition into HR management.”

What motivated you to apply for a position with us?

"Due to its size, international focus, and strategic growth, the Markert Group has a complex HR department where I can learn a lot and bring in new ideas. In this sense, it’s a „very good match“.“

What are your goals in your new job at the Markert Group?

Increase employee satisfaction and strengthen the corporate culture.”

Which company values resonate with you the most, and why?

“I believe companies that practice empathy and appreciation in all directions are the true winners. Tolerance alone is not enough.”

What was your greatest professional challenge, and how did you overcome it?

“When I resigned from my KAM career at its peak and decided to prioritize my values over the attractive package that had fulfilled me for many years. I couldn’t believe what I was doing when I called my buyer to say goodbye. In retrospect, it was a good decision.”

How would you describe an ideal work environment?

“Positive, flexible, and modern. Each of us can be a „multiplier”. We can discover the good in everyone who works with us and make them smarter and more capable.”

Is there an interesting fact about you that isn't on your resume?

“For my 40th birthday, I went to New York with my husband and friends, and my wish was to sit on the steps of Louise Bourgeois' house in Chelsea to be „close” to her. She is my favorite artist. She continued to engage with young artists from all over the world in her Sunday „salons” well into old age. I would have loved to attend one.”

Which three words describe you best?

“Strong-willed, courageous and solution-oriented.”

What do you do in your free time?

“Painting, yoga, and cooking Elisabeth Raether and Alison Roman recipes for family and friends.”
