From Agricultural Mechanic to CTO: An Inspiring Success Story

Our new Chief Technical Officer at the Markert Group Jens Kühl shares his experiences, motivations, and vision for the future.

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background and previous experiences?

"My professional career began with a traditional apprenticeship as an agricultural machinery mechanic. During my time in the military, I completed my high school diploma and then pursued a degree in mechanical engineering. Over the years, I specialized in industrial engineering and process development. For the past 23 years, I have led this department at an international automotive supplier."

Question: What made you decide to join our company?

"As my previous employer is closing their Northern German location in the fall, I had to reassess my career options. The position of Technical Director at the Markert Group particularly appealed to me because of its focus on process automation. Additionally, I appreciate the international presence of the company with locations in Italy and the USA. Another decisive factor in my decision to apply was the company culture, which is shaped by its owner-led structure and resonates strongly with me."

What special skills and experiences do you bring to your new role as CTO, and what goals do you aim to achieve with us in the future?

"I bring extensive skills in production cost optimization and plan to apply them strategically at the Markert Group. I aim to implement global standardization processes, focusing on a zero-defect strategy to ensure the highest quality. Additionally, I intend to leverage my expertise in lean management to create efficient and streamlined processes within the company. Overall, by optimizing processes, I hope to enhance the competitiveness of our company."

What motivates you in your work, and what do you value about teamwork?

"I am primarily motivated by the successes of my daily work, particularly in optimizing processes. It’s important to me not only to understand processes theoretically but also to see and experience them firsthand in the production hall. In teamwork, I especially value when team members support each other with their skills and collectively compensate for any weaknesses."

Is there a project or achievement that you are particularly proud of?

"Throughout my career, I have celebrated many great successes. However, I am particularly proud of my three grown children, all of whom are successfully forging their own paths."

How do you spend your free time, and what hobbies do you have?

"I am a passionate hunter, which gives me a strong connection to nature. I also have two Labrador Retrievers, the younger of which is from my own litter and is currently being trained by me as a hunting dog. These activities in nature and working with my dogs enrich my free time and provide a balance to my professional life."
